Great app and news source

Simple yet informing as well as easy to use.

Cumbersome navigation, and now broken

To navigate between articles, you must flip through photos, one at a time, Instagram style. Tedious and time consuming. I tried to switch to the far superior classic version, but its not available to readers who subscribed through Amazon. I cant imagine why. Now, with the latest update, this wretched app is broken; no content downloads at all. Uninstalling and reinstalling changes nothing. But uninstalling and unsubscribing will brighten my day considerably. If you want the Washington Post, subscribe directly and download the classic app. If you want Instagram, download that. Avoid this mess entirely.

Maybe "The WaPo," but NOT "The Washington Post."

Long-time reader-subscriber here, so an OLD person. But one who reads a lot of news, both "free" [infernal, interruptive ads] and paid [infernal, interruptive ads]. I am also -- oddly -- a fan and early-adopter of tech (and an Amazon-lover), but the current Post app seems to address none of these markets, barely refreshing breaking national and international news, and displaying the same non-section front page headlines day after day. Worse than Huffington Post for its "feel-iness," it is as though nothing happens in the neighborhoods of the nations capital -- let alone its sprawling neighborhoods. One has to dig SO deep to find news not elsewhere splattered as to not bother beyond the NY Times (which DOES actually cover local news). I get its being "the nations newspaper, but beyond the columnists (often distributed elsewhere), and the omnipresent talking-head journalists so often seen on TV, I fear the brand is weakening to "yeah, them."

Very poor navigation

It is impossible to navigate in this app. You can only see what the Post wants. For example how can I get to the current state of the primaries???? Or any other current topic??? The NY Times app as an example has a link that takes you directly there.

Terrible

This app is horrible. In fact, its so bad I often have to access the Washington Post via Safari. It takes forever to load, the format makes it difficult to scan for news of interest ( like scanning a front page or homepage) and they leave the same content on the site forever. Yet another sign the WaPo is falling far, far behind the NYT.

Exceptional interface

I am not judging the content but the interface. It is exceptionally engaging.

Finally.

In the past, this app wasnt so great but finally, it works well. Use it a lot! Its my favorite newspaper.

Needs improvement

There should be one spot where I can update the app with todays (or the most current) edition for reading off line i.e... on a flight.

Works fine for me

Does what its supposed to do. A good reader.

Almost There

This app for iPad has improved a lot over the past few months. I like the two-panel layout. There are only a few things more that would earn a fifth star. Get the app to load faster. Continue to add content so that this version is identical to the print version. Add comments. Is that too difficult? At least add comments that can be viewed even if writing comments cant be done. And finally, make this box larger so that we can write more! But in all, good work, Post. Keep improving. I gave you two stars last time.

Nice to read, but no sense of ethos - that theres a writing fraternity.

Im a 1st-time user of this app and of this news source. App is easy to navigate. Selections are varied and general interest - different stories from the other sources I read online. So okay experience. Cant say that I detect a bias, just reporting of stories. Perhaps my only criticism is that these feel more like narratives with a newsy bent (rather than news). Theyre told from POV of featured speaker.

Prefer Newspaper Format

I am paying $100 year for access to Washington Post articles. For another $50, I could have gotten the news in Newspaper format. The current format doesnt invite my viewing and therefore, I dont check in every day. Im sure I would open the ap first if I had the newspaper format. I would continue to pay $100 if I could get the newspaper format. As it stands, I will run out my current subscription and likely not renew. Have been a most loyal Washington Post subscriber for the past 25 years.

Strange app—unreadable text, no customization, and subscription is pricey!

Love the Post, hate the app! The interface is horrendous—lots of photos combined with tiny text. You get sliding stories left and right that don’t stop, don’t fall into place. Their text is small and, in that view, cannot be changed. There are only two stories shown at a time. No up and down list there of a set of headlines. The two-column, side-by-side stories format simply doesn’t work—maybe it’s OK on a LARGE iPad Pro turned sideways, but on an iPad mini it’s two columns of tiny text. Making matters worse, the stories are slow to load. The section bar across the top is good— a carry over from the Classic apps. But the reader cannot customize them! We’re stuck with whichever sections the Post deemed important. Poor design. There is a pull down list for sections on the left, but the headlines are in small text, too. And, again, no customization. As one scrolls through the sections there, the headlines list changes quickly, so it’s visually a distracting mess. TIPS Double-tap a story for it to expand full-screen. Scroll down to read. Then, double-tap again to return to two column story format. How much better it would have been if that took us to a list of headlines with small photos and the first sentence or two of each story. It also does NOT bring over SAVED stories from the other apps (classic or Newsstand). PRICING Really? $15/month. You have to be kidding us! The New York Times comes in at $8 and The Guardian gives you *six* months for $15. The Post has good content, but this app is way overpriced, especially as it doesn’t give you everything! Keep in mind that this is “Essentials” Washington Post app—i.e., a streamlined version of it, without such things as comics, particular sections, columnists, etc. You can search for a columnist or a section you know, but can’t make it permanently part of the app! What else is missing? You’ll have to rummage and see, but calling it “Essentials” is the tip-off. The app developers nailed it with the Classic app. This “new and improved”, stripped down, hard-to-read app doesn’t cut it.

WP review

The iPad version of the Washington Post has one of the most polished, attractive interfaces I have ever used: navigation is intuitive, the transitions are seamless, smooth and trouble-free. I could not be more pleased with the technology used to make the numerous features of the online version available to subscribers.

A step back from the WaPo iPad classic app

This app is intended to replace the iPad classic app. Unfortunately, this app emphasizes large photos over text content, make it much harder to find stories I want to read. Too much screen space for photos and not enough text summarizing stories. Bizarrely, for my subscription they wont let me use the classic app anymore, so I am stuck with this inferior replacement.

No local/metro section

The app turns the Post into solely a national news service. No longer is it DC focused as it no longer has a local/metro section or focus on DC sports.

Too flashy, not functional

This app tries to be colorful and flashy, but it makes it virtually impossible just to browse the news. I finally gave up and now read the Post in Safari.

Pre-Beta - Safari Experience is Vastly Better

This app should never have been released in its current state. I refer the developers to the NYT and FT apps for inspiration as to what the final product should be like. Failing that, just mimic the Safari/iPad UI. That would be a vast improvement. Im going to try to roll back to the previous WP app, which I used happily for years... To say the apps UI is idiosyncratic is to vastly understate how wierd and unfriendly it is.

Simply The Best!

The Washington Post has the best writers and very interesting articles. The slant is liberal which I take into consideration being a conservative but I still love this app and newspaper. Every paper could do a much better job just repeating the news without bias. Please strive for that noble goal.

An Embarrassment To Journalism

Horribly biased and obviously driven with a pro-Hillary Clinton agenda, "The Washington Post" and its supposed "journalists" are so shameful, its laughable. Every article is composed of 0% fact and 100% fiction and opinions. These people represent everything that is wrong with "journalism" today.
