Washington Post Select App Reviews

The webpage is a better experience

The WaPo webpage presents many articles upfront to browse through, with pictures and a summary. The iPad app wants to show you two articles at a time, or you can browse just headlines. Its much easier to see what interest me on their website. Also, even though I have background app refresh on, the article selection is usually outdated compared to the web site. It is slow to update, and there is not a way to force it to refresh as far as I can see. I subscribe because I really like the content, but the app needs a lot of work. I am better off using the web site.

Powerful journalism

Good writing is hard to find these days. Washington Post is worth the money for their quality writing and keen insights. I feel better informed by checking and reading the Post every day.

A tiered approach would improve this app

This app as it currently stands seems more geared to the national /international reader. I was born and raised in DC and now work in and around the town. I would like to see more local news and events as well as ads and coupons (these last in a "click-on" access not "pop-up" form). By tiered I mean every story should open to a page of a few paragraphs (think news bite). At the bottom of the page should be a "more" button which would open the entire article. Finally, I wouldnt ask you to copy the NY Times as such but when I read their app Im a bit jealous of all the locally oriented content.

Its adequate

I always figure I am missing the inside baseball stuff that you can glean from the webpage. Still I use it and respect, if not always agree, with the content. If it makes a difference I am older, southern, male and first time subscriber.

Layout not conducive to news reading

The layout is awful. Bring back the more traditional layout. Look at the NY Times for inspiration.

Very good!

Like even what I dont agree with.

Love the app

Really like the format now. It is great to be able to gain access to the WP so readily.

Its one of the clearest and easiest sites to both read and navigate .

Im always tempted to go further with the site. The digital images are stark striking and inviting .. The content is reflective of the legacy of the washing post..

Big improvement

Did not like the previous version of this app. This one is great. Easy to read and easy on the eyes.

Is this a joke?

Simply awful. Completely impractical for anyone who wants to scan the news quickly. The dumbing down of the news by wasting both time and page space. What as someone thinking? Do they actually read newspapers and understand there purpose? Its not supposed to be glitz and razzle-dazzle BS. What a way to screw over great content.

Best paper

WSJ, too right wing. NYT, too left wing. TWP, just right.

Good Graphics

The photographs are great, but its hard to find the latest from my favorite opinion writers

Bring back the old one

Whats up with the Washington Post iPad app? Much slower than other journalism apps, has a split screen for two stories that you may or may not be interested in. No clear way to get to other stories other than clicking a small menu icon. Kludgy and poorly done.

ok

Loads slowly. Lots of filler stories. But I skim it for those stories that intrigue me.

Love this news app!

I get everything I want to read here

Thanks to Amazons Jeff Bezos....

....an exemplary implementation of an online newspaper app that plays a big role in the Post currently passing up the NY Times in terms of online visitors.

Well done

This app works smoothly. Easy access with a great interface. Very happy with it!

Night Mode!!!

This app looks great and night mode is amazing. Much easier on the eyes for long viewing. The stories have and endless card style layout. The app has always run great for me with no bugs or crashes. 3/5 stars. Docked 2 stars for 3 reasons: 1. No time stamp on stories 2. No option of a compact view of stores (this is nice if I have less time and want to skim headlines) 3. $10 a month/$120 a year is a joke when majority of these stories/headlines can be accessed trough the free web in some form or another.

Love the Post

We really love reading the Washington Post with the app. Living on a lake in northern Wisconsin limits our access to newspapers so it keeps us up to date with whats going on around the country and the world.

Dr k

I love the usability of this app and feel like I can become aware of important and interesting stories easily and quickly. The quality of the Post has not been compromised in its story abridgment. Thanks!
